JAMNESIA....

"I got into surfing when I met Terence Muschett and he let me try his 6'8" diamond tail at Cable Hut Beach in the summer of '74. I was standing on my first wave and never looked back".
Jamaican surfing elder Billy Wilmot founded the club after teaching his kids to surf. As they improved and made the national team, more and more kids from the community wanted boards to use and would turn up at his house asking "len mi a board nuh Billy, Please?"
"I saw the potential for a surf club in the eyes of the kids, so we started by organizing a few grom contests and they really got into it!" Billy said, 'Because I've been surfing since '74, I had quite a few old boards lying around the place gathering dust, so I patched them up and let the kids smash them up again, but as the boards got re-smashed, I realized I couldn't aford to finance all the repairs out of pocket, so we started collecting dues, renting boards, running learn-to-surf summer camps etc and it just has grown from there".

JAMNESIA.... the Surf Camp
We had always hosted traveling surfers at our yard since the 70's. Word of mouth from surfers "in the know" led to more and more visits from surfers who made the link! As more and more surfers learnt about Jamaica's waves and started comming, we had to clean up the yard to make room for more tents and rooms. We purchased a small mini bus to supliment our transport system and trained a number of local youth as surf guides.
Now we provide visitors with Airport Pick up and drop off, surf shuttle, meals and specially arranged tours to places of interest in and around Kingston.
The Crew
The Jamnesia family "runs tings". It is comprised of "Uncle Billy",the Jamnesia patriarch, once Jamaica's best surfer, he is responsible for maintaining Jamaica's cache of "treasured" surf boards from his famous "work bench".President of the JSA and "coach" of the "Rats" he is the force driving the Jamensia surf engine.
Aunt Maggie, the matriarch, is the one who collects the $$ and the one you bargain with for one extra in the tent...., or rather ..."group discounts". Maggie makes marvellous meals that are greatly appreciated after a long surf session.
Ishack, Inilek and Icah, the "Rats" are responsible for the Jamnesia Learn to Surf Camps that are run during school holidays and also provide one on one instructions to privilleged clients.
The omni present Donavan wears many hats, tour guide, chef, handyman, 'gofer' , translator and almost any other that fits. Always up for a night on the town, he knows all the local hot spots and hot local cuties.
"OT" the general assistant makes himself useful in and around the kitchen. Famous for his "Crocodile Hunter" impersonation, always outside waiting for the big one, this grom stands tall in the line up.
Alicia the only princess in the family and her little brother Ivah endear themselves to guest with their refreshing youthful antics and clever conversations. Both are good surfers and Ivah is amazing on the skateboard.
The Crew will ensure that you have a satisfying and memorable Jamaican experience that will bring you back to Jamnesia again and again.
